I have a gallery show coming up in January.

Lives of Many and The Cease-Fire

I will be creating more movies (as animations) of my photographs whenever the chance arises.

Good story behind this one:
Just before going to bed I checked the radar and satellite because on my way home from dropping off Megz the sky was really clear. I was obviously surprised to see that the satellite was showing cloud cover. (Either it was lying or I guess I should learn to read satellite images better!)

Having had few other clear nights in November I decided to venture out anyway, despite information to the contrary of it being good conditions for a starscape shoot. This was partially due to the fact that I had just received a D2X and D80 and really wanted to try them out. However what mainly prompted me was seeing the Northern Lights tracking was blowing up so I headed out asap.

On my way North the clouds looked like they where rolling in so I stopped once at the train crossing as it was a nice position and the NL where fairly active. Even with clouds coming in I then continued North and found myself on a beach with the NL going crazy. I set up the shot with the D2X that I used to make the movie and continued to shoot with the D80 as the NL danced in the sky as fast as you can wiggle your fingers.

This is a good lesson to never let anything get in your way of shooting. I hit several road blocks that would normally have stopped me from going out but this ended up being the best I have seen the NL in a long time!

St.B Double Exposures

Double exposures are normally preformed on a film camera where you take one photo and then expose the same frame again to a different scene. In the case of the following photos, they where taken with a Nikon D200 digital camera which has the capability to do this in camera. In other words you can achieve double exposures without Photoshop in camera.
Shooting these photos was the most fun I've had in a long time. It's challenging to plan out a double exposure as you have to plan it out first in order to get the best results.
You will recognize many of the photos herein from the proceeding gallery.

Even though I had to can cell my club's starscape shoot due to cloud I still really wanted to go out and shoot. We headed North to the Winnipeg Beach area and nearly froze our fingers off although we where only out of the SUV for a half an hour to an hour at a time.

I have confirmed the dates for my gallery showing for January: As the featured artist from January 2nd to January 27th a large number of my photos will be on display and for sale at the Wayne Arthur Gallery. There will also be an artist's reception on the 7th from 1-4pm. Everyone is invited to come out for the artist's reception and to check out the show all month.

I will also be part of the Wayne Arthur Gallery's multi-artist December show where I will have a small showing of prints including my Winnipeg Panoramic.

Today I gave a presentation to the class of 24 full day students at PrairieView. It's always great to be around people so enthusiastic about photography and to take on questions that remind me of why I got into photography in the first place. I'm sure I'll be seeing the class of '07 PV students out shooting soon.

I have been invited to do two presentations during the month of October:
(For both of these events anyone can attend for free however please contact someone directly in each club to confirm.)

-October 4, 2006, I will be presenting to the Winnipeg South Photo club where I will be giving a presentation on my photography including a digital slide show.

-October 17, 2006, I will be presenting to the Manitoba Camera Club at the Winnipeg Public Library (Carol Sheilds auditorium) 6:30-8:30pm. I will be giving a digital slide show presentation with a wide variety of my photography as well as displaying several prints.

It's an extra honour to be one of only four of presenters that will take part in the MCCs month at the WPL.

Sony Canada through the PrairieView school of photographyand Don's Photo has asked me to participate in an event for their first DLSR: The Sony a100 (Alpha 100). I have been given an Alpha including lenses, a flash and a shutter release in order to familiarize myself with the camera. They also want me to provide several photos for a slide show that will run throughout the event at the end of the month where I will be helping others learn about the camera.

This event is similar to events of old or a product launch where the consumer will be able to get hands on with the product in order to learn more about it.

More details as they are made official.

I haven't really used this photo blog as a general blog but I want to start to post some thoughts and general info for any friends or relatives reading.

The processing time rant:
I'm a little upset: Over the last month I've shot over 36 shoots of which: 28 where work related, 10 where personal and 8 where paid personal shoots. What's upsetting is that I've only had time to post 3 of these shoots here. :-( Never mind that tho, take that number, multiply it by the last 6 months and that's how many MORE shoots I have to put up on the site.
Working, running, my girlfriend, teaching photography at PV, running the photo club and all the personal shoots I'm out on take up all my time. Is that a bad thing? No. I like all of that! I just want more time to process.

Crosby Stills Nash & Young (CSNY) - Winnipeg concert photography

The CSNY concert was extremely fun. I was really lucky to have not only media access but also a ticket and a VIP all access pass so no only did I get to take pictures but I also got to stay and watch the show as well as chat to the Young family after the show.
Huge thanks go to my dad on this one! He played in a band with Neil back in the 60s and they've remained friends ever since. It makes me wonder which of you I will be getting my kids in to photograph in the future.

I'm back from 10 days in BC. Three of which I spent in Vancouver and got some shots for work and the rest was out in my favourite and most scenic places just 150k North of Van.
102Gigs for about 5000 photos taken. My laptop was constantly burning and I bought a small HD while I was out there but it was a more than worth while working vacation!

Thanks to everyone who made it such a great time!
